‘Captain America: Civil War’ Box Office Predictions Soar After Big Opening Weekend Overseas

The international box office this past weekend saw a Disney domination with the continued success of The Jungle Book, and Zootopia as well as the first overseas roll-out for Captain America: Civil War. Although the U.S. is still awaiting its May 6 release this coming Friday, many international territories have already come out in droves to see the epic battle between Captain America and Iron Man.

The film set all time opening records in Brazil, The Philippines, and Mexico. The Avengers flick also played especially well in Korea, Australia, and The UK. The international box office recorded the weekend fare at about $200.2 million for CACW which falls in line with early predictions and sees the film coming in just under the most successful in the Marvel lineup, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opened at about $212 million last year overseas (based on today’s exchange rates).

Civil War currently boasts a 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and seems to be performing like another Avengers installment rather than a standalone Steve Rogers sequel. This may have something to do with the superhero company in attendance. Besides Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. suiting up as Cap and Iron Man, we are also being treated to Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, and Tom Holland‘s debut as Spider-Man.

Although Civil War is seeing its release before the summer schedule, it looks like it will still be pulling the same numbers as any other summer blockbuster, and will most likely be one of the highest grossing films of the year.
