Cannes Film Festival Officially Bans Nudity And “Voluminous” Attire For The Red Carpet

The illustrious Cannes Film Festival has now banned nudity and “excessively voluminous” clothing from its red carpet. In the new instructions laid out for the festival, they said, “This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect. The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law.”

This move likely comes due to a topless demonstrator walking the carpet at the festival back in 2022. Plus, with Bianca Censori making waves with her transparent dress at the Grammys earlier this year, the festival is likely taking precautions to prevent any future wardrobe disasters. The festival has had a history of controversy with its wardrobe policy, so hopefully this will not cause more issues.

The festival began on Tuesday, May 13, and will continue until May 24. Stay tuned for more news and buzz around the historic film festival.
