NEON has released first trailer for The Secret Agent, the latest film from Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. The film stars Wagner Moura (Civil War, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) who plays Marcelo, a technology researcher who gets caught in the middle of rising tensions between the Brazilian government and rebels in 1977 Brazil. Determined to escape the country with his son, Marcelo finds himself in the crosshairs of the Brazilian government and notorious mercenaries. Along the way, he befriends a mysterious woman who introduces him to the Brazilian resistance. You can watch the full trailer below.
The film won a slew of awards when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival including Best Director for Kleber Mendonça Filho and Best Actor for Wagner Moura. NEON acquired distribution rights for the film during the festival. They will be giving it a limited release in the United States on November 26. It is unclear at this point if NEON intends to open up the film for a wider release. Regardless, keep this film inn mind as awards season inches ever closer, as it will likely be nominated for several awards.
