Horror fans who are looking for something new this year better grab their pillows to cover their eyes, because the new trailer for the upcoming Slender Man has released and it looks terrifying. With the phrase “Once you see him you can’t unsee him” repeating throughout the trailer, the film will make audiences want to run away so they do not suffer the same fate.
In 2009, a user of the Something Awful website, Eric Knudsen, created a manipulated paranormal image for a photoshop contest. Since then, the photos have snowballed into the creation of various myths and narratives for the terrifying spectre also known as the “Tall Man.” He is described as a lanky figure in a black suit with abnormally long arms and legs, a featureless head and face, and tentacle-type appendages that stem from his back. It is said that Slender Man makes those who he targets (mostly children) go insane.
With the recent notoriety of the character, it’s no wonder that Hollywood would want to immortalize the ghastly being in a feature-length movie format. The film follows four girls who are friends leading normal teenage lives until one of them goes missing. In order to find their missing friend, the other three decide to ‘summon’ the monster only to fall victim to him as well. Katie, played by Annalise Basso, is the missing teen who was discovered to be obsessed with Slender Man. The trio who go hunting for the monster in an attempt to discover what happened to their friend are Wren, Julia, and Chloe (respectively portrayed by Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, and Jaz Sinclair). From what can be discerned from the trailer, the evil ghoul begins to haunt the kids incessantly after being summoned, slowly driving them to the brink of insanity.
Directed by Sylvain White and written by David Birke, the film is set to be released on August 10. Check out the new official trailer below.
