Cameron Diaz Discusses Why She Left Acting in Recent Interview with Gwyneth Paltrow

Every so often, a star that was once the most talked about celebrity out there ends up suddenly absent from public consciousness due to early retirement. One of those major celebrities is Something About Mary and Shrek star Cameron Diaz. Diaz had recent interview with Iron Man star Gwyneth Paltrow where she discussed why she left the acting industry.

The interview with the two stars was during Paltrow’s series known as In Goop Health: The Sessions. During it, Diaz discussed how her career impacted her when it comes to well being and relationships. She stated “I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind.” She shifted her focus from acting to focus on the relationship she has with friends and family which she felt when she was an actress she did not have a lot of personal time for herself. She discussed the excessive work she had put into many of the film projects she had a been a part of by stating, “You’re there for 12 hours a day for months on end and you have no time for anything else.” When asked how she felt after leaving acting she said “A peace. I got a peace in my soul. I finally was taking care of myself.”

While it is a bit disappointing that Diaz has not been in a film since 2014’s Annie, she has found some new comfort in her non-celebrity life. She has published two books, married Benji Madden of Good Charlotte and recently gave birth to her daughter as well. Hopefully the actress enjoys her new life free of being under Hollywood control for the next many years to come.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
