Cameron Diaz Comes Out of Retirement for Rom-Com With Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx announced on social media that Cameron Diaz is returning to acting and will be joining him for a new Netflix movie titled Back in Action which will be directed by Horrible Bosses’ Seth Gordon and will be based on a script he wrote with Neighbors screenwriter Brendan O’Brien. The plot is yet to be revealed.

Diaz’s last role was in the movie adaptation of Annie in 2014, which also featured Foxx. The two actors have also collaborated in Any Given Sunday directed by Oliver Stone.

Foxx made the announcement on Twitter, sharing audio from a phone call with Diaz who can’t seem to find the words to tell the public she’s returning to acting. So Foxx brought on Tom Brady, who famously retired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers only to return 40 days later.

The actress who has played in various movies, including The Mask, the Charlie’s Angels franchise, Bad Teacher, and others, discussed her retirement in 2018, stating that “[she] realized [she] handed off parts of [her] life to all these other people, and they took it.”

Diaz confirmed the news on her Instagram Story, writing, “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!”

Valeri Vankov: I recently graduated high school and will be moving from Bulgaria to attend Yale University in the fall. My interests range from data science to finance to trends in the entertainment industry. When it comes to movies, I am always down for a good social commentary or a psychological thriller. K-dramas are also on my watchlist. In my free time I enjoy going outdoors and reading the works of Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, and others.
