Twilight of the Mallrats is underway even in the midst of quarantine as Kevin Smith confirmed this week that he would be adding Ash vs. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell to the cast, according to Movieweb.com.
Campbell’s involvement in the project dates back to January, as the actor pressed Smith for a role in his anticipated Mallrats sequel when the film was given the green light. Smith, in turn, tweeted that Campbell should play a fictionalized version of himself, as Jason Lee’s character Brodie is mentioned to be an enormous fan of the Evil Dead actor. Smith confirmed that while compiling the screenplay he wrote a scene with Campbell in mind.
Earlier this week, Mallrats celebrated its 25th anniversary, with the film being the subject of commemoration sites like Dates in Movies via Twitter. Smith noted that he is far along on finishing the sequel’s script and made mention that, next to Campbell, actor Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) would be reprising his antagonistic role as mall owner, Jared Svenning.
Next to Rooker and Campbell, the original cast of Ethan Suplee, Ben Affleck, Jeremy London, Claire Forlani, Jason Lee, and Shannen Doherty are expected to return. And, of course, Smith and Jason Mewes will be reprising their roles as Jay and Silent Bob.
