Tomorrowland‘s Britt Robertson and Twilight‘s Nikki Reed have been set to take the two lead female roles in the indie thriller/drama Jack Goes Home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film was written and will be directed by actor Thomas Dekker (My Sister’s Keeper). The story follows a young man living in Los Angeles named Jack, who must return home to Colorado after his parents get into a car crash that kills his father and leaves his mother in need of care. The trip home uncovers secrets buried in his family’s past that involve his friends and even his own identity.
According to Dekker,
This is the kind of horror film that cannot be easily relegated to the slasher shelf. It is equal parts a family drama and, most importantly, a musing on grief.
Reed has signed on to play Jack’s best friend from home and Robertson will be playing Jack’s fiance who is also pregnant with their first child. Although Dekker is known as an actor, he will not be doing quadruple duty for his film (on top of writing, directing, and producing), and is instead in the process of casting the role of Jack. Reed is also one of the producers on the film, which begins shooting this August in New York.
Dekker made his writing and directing debut in 2008 with the indie drama Whore, which starred Rumor Willis (House Bunny). He is most known for his various television roles, which include Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Backstrom, and The Secret Circle which he starred in alongside Robertson. He also recently starred with Reed in the 2013 thriller Enter the Dangerous Mind.
Also this year, Reed will star in the family drama Scout with Dekker and Robertson’s TSC cast mate Shelley Hennig (Unfriended), as well as The Highway is for Gamblers and A Sunday Horse with William Shatner (Star Trek).
In addition to her busy star-making year in cinema with the films Tomorrowland and The Longest Ride, Robertson will be starring in Henry Joseph Church (formerly known as Cook) with Eddie Murphy (The Nutty Professor).
