Actress Britt Robertson (Scream 4, TV’s Under the Dome) has recently been announced as one of the leads in the upcoming Disney sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland. She joins the existing cast which includes George Clooney, Raffey Cassidy, Thomas Robinson, and Hugh Laurie, who will play the role of the villain. The film was originally titled 1952 but was later changed to Tomorrowland, a name it shares with the themed land at Disney theme parks.
Not much has been revealed about the plot of Tomorrowland. We do know that Robertson will star as a high schooler who must utilize her gift with technology and help of Clooney’s character to save the future of earth. It has also been confirmed that the story will not center around extraterrestrials. Other than that, our collective imagination is left to run wild.
The screenplay will be written by Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol), Jeff Jensen, and Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness, TV’s Lost), who seems to attract just as many critics as fans. Bird will direct the film, and he and Lindelof will produce. Tomorrowland is currently in pre-production and is scheduled for a December 2014 release.
