The British Film Institute (BFI) has announced the opening of BFI America, a branch of the institute dedicated to celebrating the work of the BFI in the United States. Barbara Broccoli and Terry Gilliam will be among the board members joining.
BFI America is a repurposing of the Friends of the British Film Institute. According to the organization, they will “champion the work of the BFI in the U.S. and internationally, including the vital preservation and restoration work of the BFI National Archive, and maintain the organization’s enduring partnership with U.S. cinema and its vibrant film community.”
The branch will officially launch on April 23, and it will coincide with a visit to Los Angeles to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the BFI National Archive. The board members include Barbara Broccoli (former producer of James Bond), Terry Gilliam, Colin Walsh, Penelope Wong, Dr. Mali Heled Kinberg and Deborah Schindler.
