Deadline reports that Ruby Barker, coming off her role on the popular Netflix hit series Bridgerton, has signed on to star in the high-concept horror-thriller Baghead. Led by Studiocanal and The Picture Company, the film is set to shoot in Berlin, Germany this fall.
Barker joins Witcher star Freya Allan, who has also signed on to star in the film.
Baghead will be directed by Alberto Corredor, director of the festival favorite short film of the same name. Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire pen the script.
The film revolves around a mysterious figure called Baghead, a decrepit, worn-down character who is able to manifest the dead and bring them back to the human world for a short interval of time. Those who seek out Baghead wish to reconnect with their loved ones. But they soon find out that once in contact with Baghead, the character’s true powers and intentions come to light, revealing a high price to pay for its service. The new feature will build on the storyline by taking on a Saw-like approach, adding in supernatural elements.
Barker will play a key role in the film as a young woman who faces off with Baghead to put a stop to its evil.
In Bridgerton, she played the role of Marina Thompson. The show was watched by more than 63 million households in its first month on Netflix. Barker also recently won Best Actress at The British Urban Film Festival for her performance in How to Stop a Recurring Dream.
Baghead adds to projects The Picture Company has with StudioCanal including Gunpowder Milkshake, premiering on Netflix this July, and the Liam Neeson thriller Retribution which is currently shooting in Berlin.
