It was only a matter of time, right?
Ok, so you’d have to be fairly psychic to see this one coming, say, five years ago, when Abigail Breslin was still trying to find her legs as an actress after her breakout role in Little Miss Sunshine and Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the middle of a five year hiatus from the movies to, oh, govern a state. But it’s 2013 now; Schwarzenegger is in the middle of a mini-renaissance and Breslin has major roles in the likes of Ender’s Game and August: Osage County. So naturally, they’re teaming up for a zombie flick.
Maggie will be the story of a young girl (Breslin) and her father (Schwarzenegger), the former of whom is infected in a world that would appear to be more The Walking Dead than World War Z. Presumably they’ll have to set off in search of some sort of cure, battling time as the undead disease spreads within the daughter’s body. Now taking bets on whether Schwarzenegger sacrifices himself to save her in the end.
In all seriousness, though, the film is not without an encouraging pedigree. The premise is reminiscent of the sort of classic Schwarzenegger movie that made Arnold a star in the first place, and the script comes Blacklist certified from writer Jason Scott 3. The film will be directed by Henry Hobson, a commercials director with his industry ins as a titles designer for everything from The Help to, well, TV’s The Walking Dead. Production will reportedly start this fall.
