Christopher Oquendo shared a recent photo he took on the Captain America: Brave New World set showing Giancarlo Esposito as the film’s unknown villain. This sneak peek can give audiences more insight into Esposito’s role and how he will impact the MCU.
In the photo, Esposito is seen on set sporting a simplistic black and brown trench coat with green cargo pants, a contrast from the elaborate costumes worn by traditional Marvel villains, such as the iconic infinity stone gauntlet worn by Thanos, or the Kelly green-plated armor worn by Green Goblin. This could potentially mark a change from the traditionally ostentatious costumes of Marvel heroes and villains, seemingly implying that Captain America: Brave New World aims for a more toned-down, simplistic vibe. However, this is not to indicate that the highly anticipated continuation of Captain America will lack excitement.
In a recent interview on the Phase Zero podcast, Marvel producer Nate Moore stated, “This new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation. He’s not a super soldier. He’s not a hundred years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America.’ What happens next? I think is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy.”
A more vulnerable Captain America than seen in the previous films could potentially rejuvenate audience interest in the iconic Marvel character, as ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ presents audiences with the almost paradoxical concept of a superhero who is also very human. With Giancarlo Esposito, who played the iconic villain Gus Fring in ‘Breaking Bad’, set to make his Marvel debut, fans of the iconic film franchise have plenty to look forward to.
