Following the success of his Oscar nominated directorial debut A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper is back to direct and star in his newest project Maestro, a film depicting the life of famed Broadway composer Leonard Bernstein. Cooper will portray the legendary composer in a biographical style feature produced by Netflix.
Initially Cooper was not recruited to direct, but rather was courted by incumbent director Steven Spielberg. However because Cooper was fresh off the high of the directing thrill post A Star Is Born – he made it clear he was more interested in pursuing projects in which he could write and direct rather than simply act under someone else, even if that someone else is legendary director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg was, in the words of Cooper, “kind enough” to hand over the directorial reins to him.
Maestro began filming just this month, after four years of writing and behind the scenes work done by Cooper and the rest of the pre production team, and is anticipated to premiere in 2023. Whether or not the movie will be released in theaters or simply on Netflix has not been decided.
