Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s Creed III opened to $58.6M. At its current rate, Creed III is set to surpass Creed (2015) and Creed II (2018), which made $150M and $115.7M, respectively. In 2021 Amazon bought Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for $8.45 billion. However, rather than put Creed III on their streaming service, they released it to theaters.
At the movie’s premiere this Monday, Jen Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, said that audience members could look forward to seeing more theatrical releases.
“We’ll look at each film individually and make the right decision for each of them,” Salke said to Deadline, “It couldn’t be more exciting. Hopefully, we’ll bring tons of people back to theaters with these two movies to start.”
Salke recently hired the Warners Bro. President of Production Courtenay Valenti was behind the highly acclaimed and grossing film Elvis (2022), signaling that many more movies will be released theatrically.
Creed III follows Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) reuniting with childhood friend Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) after he is released from jail and facing him in the ring.
