Box Office Highs With ‘It Ends With Us’ And Lows With ‘Borderlands’

Colleen Hover’s hit novel turned film It Ends With Us is off to a fantastic start at the box office raking in 45 million over the first three days, about 24 million came from opening day alone. With a late addition to the summer lineup and a much smaller budget of only 25 million compared to most headliners It Ends With Us is shaping up to be one of 2024’s heaviest hitters going toe to toe with Disney-Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds may be the strongest power couple of all time taking the top two slots at the box office respectfully in their separate films. While Justin Baldoni’s film may be at number one, Deadpool has been no slouch bringing in 15.6 million on Friday and is rapidly approaching the billion-dollar threshold with a current 500 million stacking up.

On another note, the previously anticipated Eli Roth’s Borderlands, an adaption of Take-Two’s hit video game has flopped harder than expected. The star-studded cast and blockbuster budget couldn’t save this victim of development hell. Borderlands started filming three years ago and signed on names like Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Kevin Heart to help bolster the video game adaptation. While pre-sales overseas are set to recoup about 60% of the 115 million budget the abysmal 4 million of its opening weekend does not bode well for the picture being able to break even truly.

In other news Illumination Despicable Me 4 is still going strong as the choice in family entertainment with 330 million in the bag while Twisters is doing well domestically still but failing to make international theaters with only 4.4 million added to its 200 million domestic haul.
