Box Office – ‘Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Scores $37 Million Opening Weekend

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves seeks to steal the box office record with an impressive $15.3 million opening. At this rate, it could supplant John Wick Chapter 4’s current reign as box office king.

Honor Among Thieves’ opening includes a $5.6 million figure from Thursday screenings and previews. Thanks to strong support from Paramount Studios, which includes a grand press tour and a preview at the SXSW festival, and 3,855 venues, Thieves is projected to earn about $40 million by the weekend with some possibilities of higher estimates. With Paramount and Entertainment One covering its $150 million budget, this projection could help it earn both companies back their shares and more.

As a result, John Wick Chapter 4 could drop to second place on its domestic charts based on a $7.8 million Friday draw, though it is reaching a $28 million pull by Sunday. With all of these numbers, it could be possible to blow its current $74 million total gross into $122.6 million by Sunday, allowing it to continue surpassing all of its other sequels in terms of box office success. While it has exceeded its first two $43 million and $93 million draws, it’s gunning to beat its previous entry’s $171 million earnings.

Thieves must continue hooking more people through its surprisingly positive reviews if it seeks to beat this record. From an 89% score from Rotten Tomatoes to a glowing review from Variety’s Owen Gleiberman, praising it as a campy but fun adventure, there is undoubtedly a draw for plenty of audiences, primarily based on CinemaScore’s A- audience rating. Even if the film does not make enough to beat John Wick, it is still admirable in its rise from the ashes of its previous critical and commercial failure from New Line’s Dungeons and Dragons, which bombed at $7 million domestically.
