The highly anticipated Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is here, and as J. Jonah Jameson once said, they want Spider-Man. The sequel to 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse has already begun to dominate the box office, even just two full days into its release.
Premiering in about 4,000 locations, it earned $51.75 million between the Thursday and Friday showings, already beating out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s opening day records. Across was initially sitting around the ballpark of an estimated $80 million for its opening weekend, but now it’s shaping up to swing into the area of around $113 million.
The opening for the original film was right around a more traditional animated release, webbing in $35 million domestically in its first weekend. The positive reviews for the first film, which currently sits at an 8.4/10 on IMDb, and a 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, are certainly helping boost the hype for the sequel. On top of that, Across is already boasting fantastic reactions, sitting at 9.1/10 and a 95% critic score.
With the spectacular and unique (pun intended) reactions to the highly anticipated sequel, Across The Spider-Verse will be a smash hit at the box office. Premium formats, such as IMAX, are boosting ticket sales.
Across the Spider-Verse is playing in theaters now and stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Oscar Isaac.
