Bong Joon-Ho Set To Direct Animated Sea Creature Film

Academy Award winning writer-director and all around cool person, Bong Joon-Ho, has his next two projects lined up. Today 4th Creative Party announced that they are teaming with Bong on an animated sea creature film. The film will deal with the dichotomy between the underwater sea creatures, and the humans on land. Besides that, little is known about the project. Bong recently finished the script in January. A script he has been working on for about three years.

Bong is also no stranger to sea creatures as one of his first films released over seas, The Host, garnered critical success as one of the best modern creature features. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Before this untitled film, he is working on an English-language film, most likely similar in production to his more Ameicanized films such as Snowpiercer and Okja. The Korean-born director is also busy as an executive producer on the Snowpiercer TV Series as well as the eventual Parasite series, both based on his 2013 and 2019 films, respectively.

Bong Joon-Ho is one of the greatest filmmakers of the last century. He is constantly evolving and challenging himself. After the success of Parasite, it will certainly be vital to see where his career goes from here. Whether it be a creature feature, a family’s parasitic nature toward another, or a train with the last remains of civilization, Bong Joon-Ho has been always focused on class. It will be interesting to see if this underwater film has similar themes.

Nothing else is known about the project and there is no set production start as of now.
