Bong Joon-Ho Attempts To Get John Carpenter To Join Crew Of New Horror Film

With Bong Joon-Ho’s newest film, Mickey 17, now playing in theaters, the award-winning director has already set his sights on his next project. And sitting next to a titan of the genre, John Carpenter, Bong was able to get him involved in the new project.

While his newest film, Mickey 17, is a sci-fi/ action flick, and his most well known work, Best Picture winner Parasite, was a drama that studies classism, he’s pivoting towards the horror genre. Not much else is known about the film, however, outside of the genre.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures hosted a screening of John Carpenter’s cult-classic horror film, The Thing, over the weekend, complete with a conversation with Carpenter himself as well as Bong. While one of his best-known films, Carpenter has contributed massively to the horror genre over his expansive career. One of his earliest films was Halloween, which while being a pioneering film in horror, also included a score composed by Carpenter himself, akin to how he worked on many of his films.

While the pair were talking, Bong made mention of Carpenter’s skill when it comes to scoring horror films, and brought up the topic of potentially scoring another movie. In a video posted by Instagram user cinemaniausa, Bong mentioned to him that his next project is a horror film, with Carpenter enthusiastically agreeing to provide the soundtrack.

Mickey 17 is now playing in theaters.
