Critically acclaimed Peaky Blinders director and screenwriter of Eastern Promises and Spencer, Steven Knight has many accomplishments under his belt. Now he seeks another: Knight has officially been set to write the upcoming James Bond film. The project will mark the 26th installment in the long-running Bond franchise and the first to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, which acquired creative control of the series following Amazon’s takeover of MGM. Knight’s appointment comes after Blade Runner 2049 and Dune director Denis Villeneuve was confirmed to helm the film. With Villeneuve on board, it points toward a bold, ambitious new chapter in the famed spy saga.

Joining the two powerhouse directors are producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, adding even more prestige to the film. Knight expressed his excitement for the opportunity in a BBC interview, promising a film that will be “the same but different—better, stronger, and bolder.” Known for his atmospheric, character-driven narratives, Knight’s involvement points toward a darker and grittier film centered around an emotionally complex take on Bond.

While excitement for the creative team builds, key details remain unconfirmed. No release date has been announced, and casting for the ensemble is yet to begin. Villeneuve is currently occupied with Dune: Part Three, expected to continue production into 2026. Due to scheduling conflicts, casting may be delayed until his schedule clears. Knight is also working on the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film as creator, writer, and executive producer. In the meantime, rumors continue to swirl around the next Bond, with A-list actors such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Tom Holland all reportedly in the running—though no official announcements have been made.

This will be the first Bond film without Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson as producers. While the siblings remain co-owners of the 007 franchise, they are no longer in full control, marking a generational shift. With a new writer-director pairing and fresh studio leadership, the next 007 installment promises to intertwine tradition and redefine the future of Bond.
