Bollywood to Remake ‘Forrest Gump’

Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks in the leading role, will be getting a Bollywood spin, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe 1994 film won six Academy Awards and was well received by the public. The storyline is based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom. The film, Lal Singh Chadha, which will be directed by Advait Chandan, was announced at an event in Mumbai on Thursday. Aamir Khan will assume the lead role. “I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script,” Khan stated. “It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family.”

Khan’s film career has spanned three decades, becoming involved in films such as Dangal, which was a big success for the Bollywood industry, and most recently, the 2018 historical drama, Thugs of Hindostan, based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel, Confessions of a ThugIt may seem unusual at first that American films are being remade in Bollywood, however, this trend has recently gained traction.

Jon Favreau’s Chef and Bang! Bang!, which is based on Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, are some of the films Indian cinema has chosen to produce. Other upcoming films will include remaking The Fault in Our Stars and musical drama Begin Again, which starred Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo.

Filming will begin in October, setting the movie’s release in 2020.
