Bob Iger Talks ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ And More During Segment of Disney’s Annual Investement Meeting

During a 20-minute segment of Disney’s Annual Investor’s Meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed many of Disney’s upcoming film and TV releases. One of the titles discussed was the upcoming, third installment of James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, due in theaters on December 19th. While no new stills or footage were shown, Iger said he had seen an early cut of the film, calling it “Absolutely breathtaking.”

Footage was provided of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, due in theaters May 23rd. The 80-second clip featured footage not in the full-length trailer released last week.

A new “sneak peek” of the upcoming FX TV series Alien: Earth was also shown. While the sneak peek of the TV series spinoff of the Alien franchise is currently unavailable online, it’s described as featuring a crewmate of a spaceship attempting to type something on a computer before being attacked by an alien. At the same time, a colleague screams for help from the other side of a sealed door.

Iger also showed off three small BDX droids, which will appear in The Mandalorian & Grogu, releasing next year. The droids appeared to be shuttering and beeping in an almost agitated state, causing the Disney CEO to quip, “Sorry Guys, scares me too.”

Iger also discussed some of Disney’s upcoming animated projects, revealing that a sequel to Coco is currently in the works and due for release in 2029. This news is unsurprising since, like the predecessors to last year’s box office hits, Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, Coco remains one of the top-streamed movies on Disney+.

Iger concluded the meeting with one final statement about Disney’s strategies for future releases. “Our renewed focus on quality over quantity has also resulted in outstanding critical success,” says Iger, citing the success of films like Inside Out 2, Moana 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine.
