With only about a month away, Blue Sky Studios has released their final trailer for Spies in Disguise. In a year of many animated sequels, it seems Blue Sky will end 2019 with something a bit more original, not to mention the last animated film to release this decade.
The trailer does not showcase a whole lot of new footage, as it still quickly gives the basic set up of famous spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith), drinking a potion made by Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) that turns him into a pigeon. It does show off more humorous gags and colorful action set pieces, as well as promoting a new song by Mark Ronson and Anderson. Paak called Then There Was Two. The trailer ends with a small gag of pigeon Lance Sterling attempting to hit the main bad guy only for it to backfire due to his tiny bird hand.
Spies in Disguise looks to be a unique and entertaining addition to Blue Sky Studios’ animated line up. With no new Ice Age films set for release at the moment and other projects like Nimona being pushed to a later release, Spies in Disguise could be a franchise starter depending on how profitable it turns out. It still has some strong competition with Frozen 2 and Star Wars Episode IX coming out prior to the film’s release, but could still find some success as the other animated film coming out this holiday season.
Spies in Disguise is set for release December 25th 2019. Watch the full trailer below:
