Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. rights to Victorian Psycho, putting production for the period horror back on its feet. This development follows multiple setbacks during the past year. After Margaret Qualley exited shortly before production had been scheduled, A24 quickly followed suit, leaving production in a difficult place.
Directed by Zachary Wigon, the movie will star Maika Monroe (Longlegs), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), and Thomasin Mckenzie (Jojo Rabbit) in an adaptation of Virginia Feito’s 2025 novel.
Set in 1858, the story follows the Pound family’s new governess, Winifred Notty (Monroe), as she slowly unfolds a horrific revenge quest. In her New York Times review of the book, Jac Jemc notes its extreme gore and psychological exploration, drawing comparisons to Bret Easton Ellis and Robert Bloch.
Dan Kagan and Sébastien Raybaud of Anton and Wigon, in association with Anonymous Content, are producing the film. Anton is both fully financing Victorian Psycho and representing its international rights. Production is set to start this week in Ireland, and Bleecker plans a 2026 theatrical release.
“We are proud to partner with this incredible creative team on Victorian Psycho. Zach’s vision is thrilling, and we know every frame will be shocking, unique, and for lack of a better word, cutting” said Kent Sanderson, CEO at Bleecker.
