Actress Blake Lively appears to be set on collaborating with producer Marc Platt on a new project for Lionsgate. The project is centered around a spec script by Tom Melia (the writer of the recent British comedy Rye Lane) with the high-concept (easy to sell) pitch of a famed TV producer, to be played by Lively, and the comical romantic hijinks she has when she is stranded on an island with a famous survivalist personality, ala Crocodile Dundee, who reveals himself to be unskilled and a pretender at the naturalist skills he prides himself on.
The premise of this script seems reminiscent of a popular type of star-driven action-comedy in Hollywood, such as The Lost City, helmed by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, as well as The Fall Guy with Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling. Lively’s previous experiences in the action genre, such as her hunted by sharks survivalist thriller, The Shallows, should give her credibility for this type of film, especially in contrast to the character she will be paired with. Albeit this film will likely play with a more comedic tone in comparison to that project.
Lionsgate has previously made Another Simple Favor with Lively, so this project will serve as a continuation of their established star and studio relationship. Also involved in the project is Scott O’Brien, the VP of Lionsgate, who will be working together with Platt. Despite having a star, producer and writer attached, no director seems to be signed onto the project.
