Phase 4 is already beginning with a familiar face, with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow. Many fans of the character are eager to see the original Avenger finally get her own film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading to high expectations of Ms. Romanoff leading the charge into post-Endgame territory.
The film will be a prequel taking place between the events of Civil War and Infinity War. Not much detail has been revealed on who will ally with Widow, but news is being reported that a certain Avenger is in play to make an appearance.
That Avenger is none other than Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, as reported by Deadline while covering the Saturn Awards. Such speculation was expected given how the movie takes place in the past, but nothing is set yet regarding how big his role will be. During Sam Diego Comic-Con, Marvel screened footage for Black Widow beginning with the clip of Tony warning Natasha, “They’re coming for you.” This could lead into the start of the film, where Romanoff is from the government for aiding Steve Rogers during the airport battle.
Black Widow is set to introduce The Red Guardian, who will be played by David Harbour, as well as Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh as other Widow agents. The main antagonist will be Taskmaster, who’s photogenic memory assist him in memorizing his combatants fighting styles so he can counter them. Black Widow will begin Phase 4 next year on May 1st, 2020.
