Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has had yet another stellar week at a relatively quiet box office. In its fifth week since its release, the film raked in $11.1 million, garnering an astounding $409.8 million total. Wakanda Forever holds a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 84%, with an audience score of 94%.
This week also saw the release of Michael Showalter’s Spoiler Alert, starring Jim Parsons, Ben Aldridge, and Sally Field. Based on Michael Ausiello’s memoir, the film pulled $700,000 from being shown at 783 theaters. Currently, the Spoiler Alert has a critics score of 85% and an audience score of 95%.
The Whale, fresh from its incredible fall festival sweep, finally got a limited six theaters release in Los Angeles and New York. The film earned $360,000 over the weekend, bolstered by question-and-answer screenings with star Brendan Fraser and director Darren Aronofsky. Audiences loved the movie, giving it a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes while only scoring 68% with critics.
The quiet weekend is due primarily to studios not wanting to release anything near the release of James Cameron’s behemoth Avatar: The Way of Water. The film, which had a budget of nearly $400 million, is projected to earn $200 million domestically when it releases.
