Scott Cooper, director of this year’s Black Mass starring Johnny Depp, has a new task at hand. He has jumped on board to rewrite and direct the upcoming Warner Bros.‘ film White Knight, reports Deadline. The original script by Bill Dubuque (The Judge) will be given a rewrite by Cooper, who also penned 2009’s Crazy Heart and 2013’s Out of the Furnace.
Cooper will see a more mainstream project in White Knight than he’s used to, as it may even turn into a franchise series for Warner Bros. The story follows an ex-Secret Service agent who is the target of a CIA manhunt after landing a job protecting an arms dealer.
Although this would only be Cooper’s fifth film behind the camera as either a writer or director, he started out his career as an actor, which may attribute to his success in directing outstanding performances. Jeff Bridges won the Academy Award for Best Actor in Crazy Heart, and Depp is in definite Oscar contention this year for Black Mass.
There is no set release date or casting announcements for White Knight at this time.
