Grammy award winner Jonas Akerlund has been drafted to direct Midas Man, the biopic about the life and success of Beatles manager Brian Epstein, as reported by Variety. The Swedish director is best known for his work on films like Lords of Chaos and Polar.
The biopic will follow the life of the ‘Fifth Beatle’ Brian Epstein. Epstein started managing the iconic group at the age of 25, and despite his young age, he took the industry by storm and led the Beatles to lifelong success. While he managed the Beatles, he was actively discovering other groups and even opened his own theatre to promote and showcase various artists. Epstein only managed the group for seven years due to his tragic drug overdose at age 32.
“Brian Epstein’s story has everything I’m looking for in a story…. it’s all about Brian’s singularity for me. I love that Brian seemed to know every step of the way what no one else knew, he saw things that no one else saw,” said Akerlund. “His vision was astonishing, he created a culture that didn’t exist. The film is more like touring Brian’s mind and what it was like to be him than how one thing led to another chronologically. I want to bring him back to life.”
The film is set to being production in Liverpool and London in 2021.
