Don Cheadle‘s (Iron Man 3) directorial debut, the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead, will close out the 2015 New York Film Festival. Davis also stars as the famous Jazz musician, along with Ewan McGregor (the upcoming Beauty and the Beast), Keith Stanfield (Selma), Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice) and Emayatzy Corinealdi (Middle of Nowhere). Cheadle co-wrote the script as well.
Little has been revealed about the film’s specific plot, but the story follows an ill Davis in the late ’70s trying to get his next check from the record company. During the trip, Davis recalls memories from his life and career. McGregor plays journalist Dave Brill, who cons his way into Miles’ apartment.
While this is Cheadle’s first time directing a feature, he has directed two episodes of his Showtime show, House of Lies, as well as an episode of the short, Vanity Fair: Decades. He has plenty of biopic experience, starring in 2004’s Hotel Rwanda and 2007’s Talk to Me. He will return to the blockbuster world when he reprises his role as James Rhodes aka War Machine in Captain America: Civil War.
No wide release date has been announced for Miles Ahead at this time.
