The film Wild Nights With Emily is a biographical comedy regarding the life of American poet Emily Dickinson that had its world premiere at last year’s SXSW film festival. This year it will finally see a release in theaters.
Wild Nights received critical acclaim from sources that were able to see its premiere at SXSW. It is written and directed Madeleine Olnek with Molly Shannon starring as Dickinson. Alongside Shannon is Amy Seimetz, Susan Ziegler, Brett Gelman, Jackie Monahan, Kevin Seal, Dana Melanie, Sasha Frolova, Lisa Haas, and Al Sutton.
A basic synopsis of the plot would tell one that the film shows a comedic portrayal of Dickinson’s relationship with her sister-in-law. However, what this film is really about is reclaiming Dickinson’s identity as one of America’s most iconic poets. For so many years now she has been portrayed as a constantly depressed woman and that persona has been retained for too long now. What Wild Nights looks to show the more lively and romantic side of the poet that the world has not really seen before, which could ultimately change the age old perception of a literary figure.
Wild Nights With Emily will release in US theaters in April of this year and is distributed by Greenwich entertainment.
