Iconic actor and singer Billy Porter is officially making his directorial debut with a comic of age film entitled Anything’s Possible. This movie is loaded with queer representation, as we would expect nothing less from Porter who is a well-known LGBTQ+ advocate. The story itself follows Kelsa, a transgender high school student, exploring life with her first boyfriend, Khal.
Kelsa and Khal will be portrayed by Eva Reign and Abubakr Ali. It’s refreshing to see people of color in the main roles of a film, as well as in the director’s chair. Another thing that’s exciting about this film is that Eva Reign is a transgender woman, just like the character she plays in the movie. So many times in film cisgender actors are cast to play trans characters, demoting an ample opportunity to not only show diversity on screen but to portray the story correctly.
The movie is highly anticipated, especially following the success of Netflix’s Heartstopper, another queer story that is exactly what people want and need. It’s so important that everyone gets to see themselves represented in the media, and now it’s finally time for the trans community to experience that representation.
Anything’s Possible will be premiering on July 22 on Amazon Prime Video.
