Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk now has a full length trailer. In the new footage for Oscar-winner Ang Lee’s experimental film, characters and performances are highlighted for the first time, featuring appearances from Kristen Stewart as Billy’s sister, Vin Deasel and Garrett Hedlund as fellow soldiers, Steven Martin as the President of the United States, and Mackenzie Leigh (James White) as Billy’s girlfriend. The emotional performances seem to shine amidst the technical backdrop, which is also a general hope for the remaining film as Lee’s 120 frames per second camera work has not received the greatest feedback out of New York Film Festival.
The film will also be shown in 3D with 4k HD clarity. For those confused by the change, most films on average display around 24 frames per second. The gargantuan jump to 120 will both speed up the footage, and if successful, would make Lee’s film larger than life when also combined with 3D.
Billy Lynn follows the eponymous young soldier (Joe Alwyn) who faces sudden culture shock after returning home from the Iraq war on a short victory tour. The realities of war and the polarized perceptions of battle – at home and at the front – are put under a microscope as Billy struggles with early stages of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Billy Lynn will begin its limited release on November 11 before opening wide on the 18th. See the full trailer below, which also features breathtaking cinematography from John Toll (Braveheart, The Last Samurai).
