Bill Kunstler to Adapt Children’s Book ‘Castle Hangnail’ for Disney

According to Deadline, veteran TV comedy writer Bill Kunstler will be adapting the children’s book Castle Hangnail for the big screen. Based on Ursula Vernon’s children’s book, the story centers on 12 year-old Molly who applies to fill a vacancy for a wicked witch at Castle Hangnail. The castle is under threat of being decommissioned by the Board of Magic unless a new leader can be found. Molly must convince the castle’s minions that despite being young and not looking like a typical evil sorceress, she is up to the task. Unbeknownst to the castle minions, Molly may not be who she says she is.

Ellen DeGeneres (Finding Dory) and Jeff Kleeman’s A Very Good Production banner acquired the property last year. Sam Dickerman is overseeing for Disney.

Kunstler has been a writer and co-executive producer for TV’s The Crazy Ones and Accidentally On Purpose. He worked as a consulting producer on CBS’ Mom last season and has developed pilots for HBO, Showtime, NBC, and CBS.
