Former Saturday Night Live funnyman Bill Hader is following in the footsteps of many of his SNL fraternity by trying to make it big on the silver screen. He may have found his highest profile role date as he appears to be in the early stages of signing up for Train Wreck. Hader would co-star in the comedy that comedienne Amy Schumer will headline based on a script she penned. We previously reported that director Judd Apatow, also producer on the project, will direct. The Universal Pictures release has a planned release date of July 24, 2015; however plot details on Train Wreck are still carefully under wraps on the comedy headlined by the Inside Amy Schumer star.
Hader left Saturday Night Live last season and has since been featured in the teen sex comedy The To-Do List opposite Aubrey Plaza, lent his voice to the 2013 animated sequel Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, and had a memorable (albeit uncredited) vocal cameo in Spike Jonze’s Best Picture nominee Her (which topped our list of the best film of 2013.) He is also set up to provide his voice for two upcoming Pixar Animation offerings: Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. Hader also stars opposite Kristen Wiig in the drama The Skeleton Twins, which recently premiered at the just-wrapped Sundance Film Festival and won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Prize. Roadside Attractions snapped up the project for U.S. distribution. The film, which was directed and co-written by newcomer Craig Johnson, stars the former SNL co-star as twins to reunite after both have separate brushes with death. It marks a decidedly dramatic departure for both comedy vets. The film is expected to be released some time later this year.
Train Wreck marks the fifth feature film from Apatow, whose debut was the 2005 comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin and whose last feature was the 2012 middle-age dramedy This Is 40.
