Big World Pictures to Release Sundance Darling ‘Viktoria’ in U.S.

Viktoria, which had its world premier at 2014’s Sundance, now has a U.S. distributor.  Brooklyn NY based Big World Pictures has acquired rights to the film, a standout on last year’s festival circuit.Viktoria is the story of three generations of Bulgarian women before the fall of communism. The title character was born without an umbilical cord and is named ‘The Socialist Baby of the Decade,’ a title that comes with life-changing privileges, at least until winds of governmental change sweep in.

Director Maya Vitkova made her feature debut, adapting her own screenplay.  The film is only the second Bulgarian film with U.S. distribution in the last 30 years, with the first being 2014’s The Lesson which was acquired by Film Movement after screening at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
