Big Screen ‘Baywatch’ in the Works

After many years of anticipation, it looks like a big-screen reboot of the iconic lifeguard saga Baywatch will finally find its way to the multiplex.  Paramount Pictures announced on Thursday they are moving forward with the project, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson set to star.

Many have tried to bring Baywatch to the big screen, but now it looks like it might actually happen.  The 1990’s David Hasselhoff primetime beach action drama may have found a home at Paramount Pictures, with Dwayne Johnson heading the cast.  Johnson was most recently seen in Brett Ratner’s Herculesand can be seen in 2015’s The Fast and the Furious 7 and the disaster film San Andreas.

The comic writing/directing/producing team of Sean Anders and John Morris, whose Horrible Bosses 2 hits theaters on November 26, have been tapped to co-direct.  Up and coming scribe Justin Malen has been tapped to rewrite the script, which has been floating around Hollywood for years without finding a home.

Johnson confirmed the rumors on Instagram, stating “Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie”  “Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach…”

A  production start date has not been announced.
