Shameik Moore, the voice of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, has shared a production update on the franchise’s third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. This marks the first public statement from a cast member since Sony rescheduled the film. The project has faced multiple delays. Originally set for release on March 29, 2024, the film was removed from Sony’s release calendar in July 2023, likely due in part to delays caused by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
In a recent interview, Moore confirmed he is currently recording lines for the film, indicating that voice work is now underway. He emphasized that while he is recording his part, he does not know how far along the rest of the production is, or whether his co-stars have started recording as well. His update is the first sign of meaningful progress since the film’s delays, offering fans some hope and reassurance as they await the trilogy’s conclusion.
Beyond the Spider-Verse will continue the story from Across the Spider-Verse, following Miles Morales as he faces his archnemesis, The Spot, while navigating multiversal threats and his life beyond being Spider-Man. The film will again be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with returning writers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham. It is expected to resolve the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, which left Miles stranded on an alternate Earth.
The Spider-Verse franchise has become one of the most successful animated series, with Into the Spider-Verse grossing $374.56 million and Across the Spider-Verse reaching $690 million, earning over $1 billion combined. The films are celebrated for their distinct animation style and storytelling. Into the Spider-Verse won an Academy Award in 2019.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters on June 4, 2027.
