Bernie Taupin Documentary In The Works

In Dexter Fletcher’s 2018 film, Rocketman, fans of musician Elton John were treated to a peek behind the scenes, gaining insight into the success of his songs and lyrics. Revealed behind the curtain was none other than John’s songwriter and close friend, Bernie Taupin. Now, fans will be able to get a deeper look into Taupin’s life in the new documentary celebrating his legacy.

Network Entertainment is standing behind his documentary as Matthew Miele is set to direct. The documentary will include interviews with various stars such as John himself, Brandi Carlile, Alice Cooper, James Hetfield, Annie Lennox, Lulu, Gary Oldman, Ringo Starr, and Pete Townshend, all according to Deadline

The documentary will include these interviews, as well as archival content from his and John’s glory days. Deadline summarizes that the documentary will include, “a pulsating celebration of Bernie’s life, a deep dive into the roots of his creativity — including Bernie living his dream as a cowboy on the California coast, and a trip with Bernie back to Lincolnshire to capture his origin story, which is rooted within many of his songs that have become classics — and an insider’s look at his insatiable pursuit of sonic and visual art forms.”

In regards to the project, Taupin recently stated, “Reticent as I am to scrutiny, this project has been enlightening both on an emotional and analytical level. The originality of all parties involved has made participating in it much easier as I loosen my grip on the cards I hold closest to my chest.”

As remarked producer Miele stated, “I think many people are unaware that the phenomenon that is Elton John is really two people,” and this statement couldn’t be any more accurate. The two are credited with some of the most influential songs of the 70s, such as “Your Song,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Rocketman,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and many, many more. The two hold 30 top hit singles, over 25 platinum albums, and 35 gold albums.

John and Taupin’s legacy is still discussed and analyzed to this day, and with this new documentary, fans will be able to learn more about one of the most iconic duos in the music industry.
