Benedict Cumberbatch Teases ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Appearance

Benedict Cumberbatch let the cat out of the bag, confirming in an interview with Empire, that he will be part of Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. This announcement, while unsurprising given Marvel’s brand, still offers fans confirmation of the seemingly inevitable. The Oscar nominated actor officially joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe roster with the debut of Doctor Strange on November 4th.

In the origin film, Cumberbatch portrays Dr. Stephen Strange, a gifted if arrogant surgeon who spirals downhill in the aftermaths of a terrible accident. He finds himself, realizing his superhero destiny, after seeking the advise of the mystical Ancient One. Doctor Strange features the tony ensemble cast comprised of Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tilda Swinton. Scott Derrickson directs the feature, himself making his Marvel debut. Cumberbatch teased his further Marvel commitments, commenting:

To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.

It remains to be seen in what capacity Doctor Strange will fill in Avengers: Infinity War, especially considering the already massive cast list expected to join directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s mega-tentpole. Alongside Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and all the regulars, the film – where they finally take on the teased Big Bad Thanos (Josh Brolin – will also feature characters from Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to open in theaters on May 4, 2018.
