Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are coming together again to tell the story of Nike’s game-changing early days. Viola Davis is joining the duo and playing Michael Jordan’s mother.
The trailer for Air dropped on Thursday in an advanced Super Bowl spot. The film is directed by Affleck and is produced by Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, and Mandalay Pictures.
Damon stars as Sonny Vaccaro, the Nike salesman who signed Michael Jordan to a shoe contract in the mid-80s, which launched the multibillion-dollar company globally.
Affleck is also staring in the film as Nike co-founder Phil Knight, with Davis playing Deloris Jordan, who was forced to be reckoned with during the negotiations on behalf of her son.
Additional cast includes Jason Bateman as Rob Strasser, Chris Messina as David Falk, Marlon Wayans as George Raveling, Chris Tucker as Howard White, Matthew Maher as Peter Moore, Gustaf Skarsgård as Horst Dassler and Julius Tennon as James Jordan.
Last month, Amazon and Affleck announced the film would have a traditional theatrical release across the globe before premiering on Prime Video later. The streaming release date is yet to be released due to how well the film does at the box office.
Air is the first project from Affleck and Damon’s Artists Equity and will be Damon’s first time starring in a film directed by his friend.
