On the night of Saturday, April 8th, The Accountant 2, the long-in-development sequel to the 2016 film starring Ben Affleck as an autistic Accountant who works as a CPA for multiple crime bosses, premiered at SXSW 2025. The sequel follows Ben Affleck’s Wolff as he attempts to solve the murder of an old acquaintance alongside his gun-for-hire brother, played by Jon Bernthal. At the premiere, Affleck commented on some of the challenges he had working on this new film, one of which was learning to line dance for a scene where Wolff does precisely that at a Los Angeles dive bar.
“For me, the challenge, of course, was the months and months I spent training to line dance,” Affleck said jokingly while onstage at the premiere. He continued, “Tom Cruise has nothing on me. Just in terms of line dancing!”
Also at the premiere was Jon Bernthal, and both he and Affleck commented on working again on the sequel. “The central appeal to me was always to expand on my work with Jon,” said Affleck about why working on the sequel appealed to him. Bernthal added that he was excited to work with Affleck again, saying, “Ben is a hero of mine, and I admire him so much.” “You don’t have to say that,” Affleck sheepishly responded, though Bernthal continued, “He is equal parts a beautiful person as he is a beautiful artist. Making movies for me is usually knocking my head into a wall and kind of hating myself, so this was very easy.”
The Accountant 2 received a very warm response at its SXSW 2025 premiere. The film will be released in theaters on April 25th of this year.
