Despite all the commotion (both positive and negative) surrounding Ben Affleck’s new role as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, the actor confirmed he will not let his superhero duties get in the way of his work behind the camera. In fact, Affleck is currently developing a new thriller about mercenaries in Africa.
The untitled project will feature a group of mercenaries who are hired to take out a vicious African warlord who is terrorizing his own people. In a similar vein to Argo, Affleck will reportedly attempt to blend action with thought provoking content about politics and international relations.
Affleck has recruited screenwriter Will Staples to pen the script. Staples got his start writing videogames including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and his screenplays have been making their way about Hollywood lately.
In addition to this new project and his role as Batman, Affleck is busy filming David Fincher’s Gone Girl adaptation. Affleck is also preparing to direct, write, produce and star in an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Live By Night. It will be the second Lehane adaptation Affleck has directed, the first being 2007’s Gone Baby Gone.
