‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Receives 4 Minute Standing Ovation At Premiere

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice received a 4-minute-plus standing ovation at the Sala Grande where the film premiered at the beginning of the Venice Film Festival.

According to Deadline reporting, the standing ovation lasted 4 minutes and 35 seconds following the beat of the closing music. The cast or creators made no speeches to bolster this ovation time.

The film was produced by Tim Burton and was joined by Michael Keaton who was reprising his role as Beetlejuice role after 36 years. Other stars of the film were Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.

Burton told reporters at the press screening earlier in the day that this film “could never place” the original film “as something other than personal to me. So after all these years being able to work with Michael, Winona and Catherine again made it more personal and special along with Jenna, Monica, Justin and Willem — new people who got into the spirit of it. So it was a very personal project for me” according to Deadline.

To respond to questions of a third, Burton said Let’s do the math. It took 35 years to do this one. For another, I’d be over 100. It could be possible thanks to medical science. But I don’t think so.” To that, Keaton quipped that Beetlejuice is dead so he doesn’t age.
