Warner Bros.’ spooky sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, continues its reign at the box office, dominating both domestically and internationally for the third consecutive weekend. The Tim Burton-directed film has garnered an impressive $17.2 million from 76 international markets, pushing its overseas total to $103 million. Globally, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has crossed a significant milestone, “surpassing the $300 million mark” with a total of $329.7 million in ticket sales.
While Beetlejuice Beetlejuice remains on top, Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot has made a notable entry into the international box office. The sci-fi survival story, which follows a robot marooned on an uninhabited island, earned $6.85 million across eight markets. China contributed $4 million to the total, while Australia added $1.9 million. The film, which features Lupita Nyong’o voicing the android ROZZUM unit 7134, has seen enthusiastic reviews and is poised for further success as it prepares to release in North America and other international territories on September 27th.
On the other hand, Paramount and Hasbro’s Transformers One had a less impressive debut, earning $14 million from 50 international markets. Despite its wider release, the film’s performance was underwhelming compared to The Wild Robot, which grossed about half as much from significantly fewer territories. “Imax screens contributed $3 million of global revenues” for Transformers One, but the film still fell short of expectations in its North American debut, accumulating $39 million globally against a $75 million budget.
