How to Build a Girl, the upcoming coming-of-age movie featuring Lady Bird actress Beanie Feldstein, has revealed its expansive cast. Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Caitlin Morgan, the film shares Lady Bird’s period piece set-up and central theme of building one’s identity. The cast currently stars Feldstein alongside Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), but has also added Paddy Considine (Journeyman) and Sarah Solemani (Bridget Jones’s Baby) as Feldstein’s “unconventional parents.”
Set in the year 1993, Feldstein takes on the role of Johanna Morrigan, a smart, funny and overweight working-class sixteen year-old living in her English hometown of Wolverhampton. Desperate to make a name for herself and escape her quiet living, Morrigan reinvents her identity into that of Dolly Wilde, an eccentric and sexual rock music critic. Gaining notoriety as an enfant terrible, Morrigan learns ‘how to build a girl,’ but must ultimately confront whether or not Dolly is the girl she wants to be?
Director Coky Giedroyc, (BBC’s The Hour) will oversee How to Build a Girl’s shooting this summer. The film also stars Laurie Kynaston, Joanna Scanlan, Arinzé Kene, Frank Dillane, Tadhg Murphy and Ziggy Heath. However, producer Debbie Hayward has promised “more surprises to come” on the film’s cast.
