With the release of The Batman’s sequel coming up, as well as a new spin on a DC shared universe, confirmation has been given that several characters from Batman’s rogues gallery will be getting the Hollywood treatment. Both Bane and Deathstroke, who have appeared in films before, are confirmed to be coming to the new DC universe under a new film.
Deathstroke hasn’t had many appearances on screen, despite being around even longer than Bane.
Deathstroke appeared in a comic for the first time in 1980, and since then became synonymous with not only Batman, but has also fought other heroes from the DC universe.
Within the realm of film, Deathstroke has only had cameos in some of the films from the DCEU, including one in 2017’s Justice League. However, he has had a checkered past of being intended to be used in a film, but the character rarely made it to final script drafts.
Hollywood Reporter, who noted that their own sources informed them of the news, also stated that Bane is a relatively new addition to DC’s lineup, compared to other mainstay characters.
Bane only appeared for the first time in 1993, but immediately cemented himself as one of Batman’s greatest foes, repeatedly going toe-to-toe with the caped crusader, and sometimes even beating him in combat.
Bane made his film debut in 1997’s Batman And Robin, and later appeared in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
No director is attached to the film as of yet, but Matthew Orton is confirmed to be writing the script.
