Due to the unprecedented coronavirus outbreak, many major studios including Disney, Lionsgate, Universal, STX Films and Warner Bros, have opted for VOD releases on previously anticipated and upcoming movies like Onward, Birds of Prey, and The Invisible Man. Now Sony Pictures is doing the same for its action comedy Bad Boys For Life, the highest grossing movie of 2020 so far, which earned around $204 million in North America. The studio has given the sequel an early VOD digital release for March 31 and will debut April 21 on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
With hundreds of cinemas across the nation shutting down to uphold the practice of social distancing, it is unlikely to watch the 17 years-anticipated sequel anytime in the future. Early VOD releases have become quite common as people nationwide have taken to self quarantining. The big title picture can still get its name out there and entertain viewers at home, which is great for those who have not had the chance to see the film in theaters during its big box office success.
Bad Boys For Life is a sequel to 1995’s Bad Boys and 2003’s Bad Boys II, and carries a $90 million production budget. This sequel reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as old-school cops taking down the leader of a Miami drug cartel.
