Edgar Wright has always been a fan favorite director for his distinct style of work. Wright is now set to release a psychological horror film this year, Last Night in Soho, though it was also announced that another will be coming from him in the future. Wright is now set to direct a film adaptation of Simon Stephenson’s upcoming novel Set My Heart to Five.
The novel centers around a robotic dentist known as Jared. After being influenced by films of the 80s and 90s, Jared embarks on a quest to make humans aware that he also can connect them on an emotional level. This leads him to journey across the USA to meet his original creator and also write a film script that could potentially change the world. The script will be penned by the novel’s original writer Simon Stephenson and will be distributed by Working Title Films and Focus Features.
From the sounds of this project, Set My Heart to Five seems to be right up Wright’s alley in regards to his style of filmmaking. With past films like Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver being heavily reliant on pop-culture references, directing one where the main character has a strong passion for older films seems like the exact type of project Wright would be interested in. Since the book seems to have a lot of heart and humor in it, it’s guaranteed that Set My Heart to Five will match that with Wright’s original and unique style.
